Route editor and outdoor utility
Plan your route before you start, and see track stats while on your way.
Draw a route tapping on the integrated map, or import it setting start and destination addresses, or from a file and you will get immediately:
- route length
- time estimate (speed can be specified also manually)
- elevation profile
- ascent and descent
Then, once you are started, RoutePad calculates where you are along the track, and you get:
- your current position as address, coordinates, altitude
- your current position along the elevation profile
- time estimate based on average, instant or manually specified speed
- distance, ascent, descent done and remaining
It’s ideal for walking, hiking, jogging, riding, driving, flying.., it does not need to be running all the time like a tracking app, so it won’t drain your device’s battery.
Features
- Route editor: it’s very quick and easy to create routes directly on the Google maps with your fingers
- Length calculator
- Time estimation, based on your average, instant or a manually specified speed.
- Shows informations about your current position: address, coordinates, elevation
- Elevation profile graph
- Ascent and descent calculations
- Stopwatch
- Start time, end time and pause are editable
- Routes can be saved and reused
- Routes can be reversed
- Kilometers, miles and knots support
- Import routes from GPX or KML files
- Import automatic routes, specifying start and destination addresses

I don’t get how to import a gpx file from my computer. I select the import button, select “file from my computer” and a screen comes up saying ‘To import….must be on same network. (I am) “open this url in your computer’s browser …. ” then it gives my phones address. I can see my phone on my network in explorer but I can’t copy a file to it. When I copy the url they give me into my browser nothing happens. What am I missing?
@Thea: after you have copied the url on your browser (and pressed enter) you should see a page like this:
. Click “choose a file”, choose your gpx file and press “import”. At this moment, the app on the iPhone should import the route. Once done, tap on it and press “open”. If this doesn’t work let me know (here or at mail@matteocaldari.it )
Baixei o programa, mas não consigo abrí-lo.
I’m having the same issue at Thea in Post on June 7. My trouble is I am using Safari. I open the app on my IPHONE and then to the bookmark in Bonjour. I see my phone and when I click on it I get the screen “Import Track”. I select my gpx file and click on import. At that time the browser trys to connect to the Url but the at that time the App closes on the phone and Safari indicates that is can not connect to server.
@Darrin thank you very much for reporting the issue, I’m working to fix it.
Can I hit the home button adn will the program keep running?
The same issue i can´t import my gpx or kml files even i can´t open the url, i´m working on windows 7 with safari and iexplorer8 and i have the same issue i hope you can fix that.
@Luis, problem is fixed, update sent to Apple, expect it to be available in a few days
@Gary, since the route is already defined, RoutePad does not record your movements, therefore doesn’t need to be running in background
Great program! The only one I found that is able to open large routes.
It would be just perfect, if it would be able to use offline (preloaded) maps like Offmaps. Any chance this is coming?
@Steffen, thank you! I’m really glad you noticed that. About offline maps: it’s not on the next features list, but I’ll see. At the moment: if you are online and navigate maps, they are cached, so then when you are offline you will be able to see them. And there’s a hidden feature: if you tap 3 times “hybrid” in the map type selector, the terrain map is displayed
Ciao Matteo,

Love the app. Been looking for something like this for a while and it does everything and more.
I’ve mamanged to import a GPX file by connecting through WiFi, but only the once. When I try it since, I just get a message from the browser (FIrefox) that it can’t find the server. Is this a problem at my end do you think or is there a certain trick I need to know.
Grazie Matteo,
facendo come dici funziona.
ciao
Hi, is there a way to re-load or refresh the altitude graphs? Can they be updated automatically? I have several that have obvious errors or no information in them at all for some sections where i know there should be large variations in altitude. Cheers
Import gpx issue: Using Chrome, I can import gpx file, but as soon as routepad starts to receive, it closes. Browser says import was successful, but when I restart routepad it isn’t there. I’m thinking it has to do with gpx file itself? Are there certain text strings that may cause this? I can send you file.
@Brad: yes, I’d really appreciate if you send me the gpx file (you can find my email here), thanks
@Shannon, initially I thought it would not be necessary, but I’ll add it in the next update
I’ve added new features to RoutePad, including adding automatic segments to a route, import of walk directions, improvements in the elevation graph. So I need some beta testers, if you’re interested drop me an email
